چکیده

Modeling natural sounding voice qualities – for example the pressed-modalbreathy voice quality continuum which widely occurs during normal speech production – is a crucial point in speech synthesis. A parametric voice source model using prescribed sinusoidal vocal fold vibration patterns (i.e. extended Titze model) is introduced in this paper. This voice source model was adapted for synthesis of a typical male and female voice. A simulation experiment was performed by varying glottal abduction/adduction in order to generate a voice quality continuum from pressed over modal towards breathy. A parameter analysis of the resulting waveshapes of glottal flow and its time derivative was carried out in terms of the LF-model. This analysis indicates that our parametric voice source model is flexible enough to generate the modal to breathy but not the modal to pressed voice quality continuum for the male as well as for the female voice. It can be hypothesized that a self-oscillating voice source 1. This paper is dedicated to the 60th Birthday of Bernd Pompino-Marschall. I met Bernd Pompino-Marschall in the early 90th of the last century as a young scientist when Bernd already was Professor in Berlin. I thank him especially for supporting me in my hard years between PhD and getting my permanent position at RWTH Aachen University. In these years I always was welcome to visit his Lab at ZAS and at Humboldt University of Berlin and I was employed in Berlin from 1999 to 2000. Great times! I learned a lot! Thank you for all, Bernd!

Articulatory synthesis of words in six voice qualities using a modified two-mass model of the vocal folds

A modified two-mass model of the vocal folds is introduced and applied to the articulatory synthesis of words in six voice qualities. The modified two-mass model uses mass elements that are inclined, instead of parallel, with respect to the dorsoventral axis as a function of the degree of abduction. This allows to produce the continuum of voice qualities from pressed over modal to breathy voice...

Voice-based Age and Gender Recognition using Training Generative Sparse Model

Abstract: Gender recognition and age detection are important problems in telephone speech processing to investigate the identity of an individual using voice characteristics. In this paper a new gender and age recognition system is introduced based on generative incoherent models learned using sparse non-negative matrix factorization and atom correction post-processing method. Similar to genera...

On Talker Voice and Language Identification

Listener similarity judgments of languages seem to be influenced by regional speech characteristics and talker voice quality, and listener responses to voice quality are influenced by language. This study attempted to assess the relationships between judgments about voice quality and judgments about language. In the first experiment, using an ABX format listeners matched spoken samples of unkno...

طراحی یک روش آموزش ناموازی جدید برای تبدیل گفتار با عملکردی بهتر از آموزش موازی

Introduction: The art of voice mimicking by computers, has with the computer have been one of the most challenging topics of speech processing in recent years. The system of voice conversion has two sides. In one side, the speaker is the source that his or her voice has been changed for mimicking the target speaker’s voice (which is on the other side). Two methods of p...

Voice source changes of child and adolescent subjects undergoing singing training--a preliminary study.

Many vocal practitioners have strong beliefs regarding the age at which singing training of a child should begin, and the different ways in which male and female children should be treated. These beliefs are not substantiated by any scientific research, leading to considerable dispute between vocal coaches and choral directors. The singing voices of over 127 child singers and non-singers aged 8...
